a set of values of a variate that divide the range of a probability distribution into contiguous intervals with equal probabilities (e.g. 20 intervals with probability 0.05, or 100 intervals with probability 0.01). Within bioregional assessments, probability distributions are approximated using a number of runs or realisations.
